This is another song that I needed to write. Change had come again, throwing everything I thought I knew about love into turmoil. There was change in my relationship with my partner, in my music, and in my internal reactions to the experiences that shape this album. I had written the chord progression months before but waited to put lyrics to it. Somehow I knew that the words would arise when they needed to and, sure enough, on my friend’s living room floor in Minneapolis, they flowed out of me in one sitting. I was (and still am) learning to face change with my heart open. I have found it to be the only way to transform my fears and anxieties into something more manageable.

Lyrics

Wide awake
Old mistakes
Cover up the sun
Will it find
Strength to rise?
Will it choose to run?

My heart is open wide, so bring it all inside

In this home
I have known
Silence is a friend
But moments come
Beat my drum
And say this is the end

But my dear, I’m here, there’s nothing wrong, sing a song, and the moment’s gone

All my life
I have tried
To feel something true
Through it all
Fields and walls
I’ve found it in you

My heart is open wide, so bring it all inside

Hold my hand
Make no plans
Keep your love alive
I don’t know
How this whole thing will go
But I want to try

Oh my dear, my dear a brand new dawn is rolling on when the moment’s gone
When the moment’s gone
And the moment’s gone
