During the months after my former band, Crawlspace, broke up I would walk along the Milwaukee River and try to find some sort of peace in my heartbreak and to simplify the details of my life.The song was born when its central riff came to me. I was noodling through a rainy afternoon, struggling to meditate when the melody simply appeared in my head. The lyrics flowed out soon after as a tender reminder to myself of how even as I struggle and “strive through my sickness” (both mental and physical) that it was all for the sake of peace and simplicity.
