From the recording The Real Truth
I wrote this song out of a desperate need to forgive. Not for the sake of anyone else, but for my own peace of mind. In the depths of a confusing summer in which former friends and bandmates felt beyond forgiveness, I turned to music to process the feelings of bitterness and loss. The turbulence of the dynamics and the atypical song structure reflected my state of mind at the time and I found that though “forgiveness bleeds”, I still wanted to keep bandaging it up day after day.
Lyrics
I knew you when the past was out of reach
Fingerbones on endless empire beach
If you pretend that you don't know me now
I’ll wait it out, I'll be around
We had a way of laughing for hours and hours
Found hideaway in the tower, in the tower, in towers
And the stone was pure gold
But nothing rushed from heaven but the cold
And nothing rushed from heaven but the cold
And nothing rushed from heaven but the cold
The cold of the night on our clothes
No better time nowhere to go
But still you have a heart in me
Half in the bag, half in my head
All underground, all things unsaid
I know now
Forgiveness bleeds
And somehow
It's in me
The cold of the night on our clothes
No better time nowhere to go
But still you have a heart in me
And still you have a heart in me
And still you have a heart in me
