From the recording The Real Truth
Over the course of writing and recording this album, I found a lot of peace in the study of meditation and Buddhism. The mumbled phrases are The Five Remembrances: truths about this fragile human life. The text of the song comes from “Gatha for Planting a Tree” by Buddhist monk, author, and activist, Thich Nhat Hanh, which represents for me the ‘Real Truth’. Though we are fragile, impermanent, and suffering, we still can choose to entrust ourselves to the earth and embrace forgiveness, connection, and love.
Lyrics
(I am of the nature to die
I am of the nature to grow old
I am of the nature to fall Ill
I can’t change anyone, I can’t stop anyone from changing
My actions are my only possessions)
I entrust myself
I entrust myself
To the Earth
To the Earth
And she entrusts herself to me
